She explained that the group was executing programming using space offered by various partners monthly, but realized there was an urgent need for services and support 365 days a year. Kilby launched The Baltimore Military Muster, the predecessor to Reveille Grounds, in 2017 and became a certified non-profit organization in 2021. The overall mission is to assist veterans as they transition back into society as the leaders we all so desperately need,” Kilby added. Reveille Grounds was designed to smooth this path by connecting people, convening resources, curating opportunities to build stronger veterans and help them renew their sense of community and camaraderie. “Despite all the efforts of the Sea of Goodwill, which helps reintegrate military personnel into civilian life and now comprises more than 46,000 nonprofit organizations, individuals struggle with un- and under-employment, mental health issues, a loss of a sense of purpose, and a feeling of isolation. As a result, our veterans often wrestle with the transition from service to civilian life. “Too often, we get stuck in the ‘thank you for your service’ narrative instead of also recognizing our veterans as the talent, assets and skilled leaders this country has invested so much in them to be. “This concept is an answer to an overwhelming problem, and we are committed to a collaborative, mission-driven solution,” explained Katie Kilby who, throughout her life, has been surrounded by family members and friends working in the military. ![]() (Photo credits: Kate Jordan, Lee & Associates) Veterans Affairs benefits briefings and open mic nights showcasing veteran talent will also be held at the site. In the future, Reveille Grounds will include a small coffee shop available for meetings and small gatherings, as well as regular special events including monthly breakfasts and happy hours to encourage networking and the exchange of ideas, peer support groups, and workforce trainings. Katie Kilby, a self-proclaimed military brat and wife of a combat-wounded Marine, saw the need for a dedicated space that would provide access to support, resources and opportunities for current and past members of the United States armed services, as well as collaborative work and event space for partner organizations working within the group.
